Todays Fandom Friday is about one of the greatest worlds ever created in modern literature: The Shadow World which you can explore through multiple series, a movie, and a television series.

Since The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones came out in 2007, the world of literature would never be the same. Cassandra Clare's world she created may not be as magical to some people as Harry Potter, but to me, it was life changing.
I received City of Bones as a Christmas present in 2008 and the first chapter just completely sucks you in. Hilarious one liners, a murder, hot AF characters, magical other worlds- what doesn't this series have? If you wanted to joke around and say "vampire", well jokes on you because this series has Downworlders ( warlocks, werewolves, fairies, and vampires to list some recognizable ones). I ripped through City of Bones in a matter of days, and then read City of Ashes like my life depended on it.
I cannot stress it enough- these. books. freaking. rock.
Granted, I will always be more biased for the first three- the continuation of the series stoked me up to no end, but the first three books carried a lot of magic for me.
When the movie came out, (entitled The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones in case you missed it. I loved it, for some reason, some picky people didn't.) I lost my mind. I had been prepping for this movie, keeping up with casting updates, watching behind the scenes videos on YouTube, even making a Twitter specifically so I could keep updated. When lackluster reviews came out and for some reason, many people didn't like the movie, I was heartbroken that the Shadow World might not continue on the screen.
Then came the announcement that THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS WOULD BE A TV SHOW and the amount of PUMPED is IMMESURABLE. Sure, I may have been disappointed with some of the casting, but everyone deserves a chance! There is no way a casting director is going to fulfill your wildest dreams of the exact image you had of your characters- you can't please everyone! I LIKE that they are doing different things with the show, changing up the plot. I know what happens in the books, I WANT to be surprised watching the show. And according to Twitter, I am not the only one. Shadowhunters dominated the twittersphere every Tuesday night, definitely helped by Matthew Daddario's hilarious live tweets of the show. I lived for the commercial breaks so I could read what he and every other Shadowhunter fan felt.
Season 2 of Shadowhunters still doesn't have a release date, but Maia has been announced to be joining the characters, and with the positive reception the series received this spring, we can only assumed that this second season will be longer than the first ( yahhhhhhhhs!).
The Shadowhunter Fandom (called Angels. I know, adorable) are ridiculously loyal, creative (look-up fan art. It's beautiful), and equally as funny as the characters in the book. I can't wait to see what the Shadow World will continue to bring and read more of Cassandra Clare's books!
